The three main providers of digital TV in the UK at the moment are

Sky

Sky offer packages that provide equipment and monthly subscription channels

Getting started with Sky TV is simple. You only have to pay for the TV you want to watch, so start by choosing at least one of six Entertainment Packs. Next, add Sky Sports for coverage of over 100 sports and Sky Movies for over 450 movies a week. Plus, get hundreds of extra channels at no extra cost when you take any Sky TV package.

Virgin Media

Virgin Media offer packages that provide equipment and monthly subscription channels.

Virgin Media is a cable provider offering a library of popular programmes and films on-demand, and it can also supply your home phone and broadband in a single bill. If you opt for their V+ box rather than their standard digibox, you'll be able to record your favourite programmes and pause and record live TV, much like you can with Sky +.

Freeview

Freeview offers a way of accessing public service channels without paying a subscription charge, once you have a digitally enabled TV and aerial.

Freeview is a digital TV service offering over 30 TV channels for a one off fee and no contract. You may even be able to get it with your current aerial, by getting the suitable digibox or digitally enabled TV (and digital recorder, if necessary). You can combine it with Top UP TV to add a limited range of extra programmes. TopUP TV even offer a digital TV recorder, which allows you to pause, rewind and record your favourite programmes.

Regional providers for your digital TV

There is a range of smaller, regional digital TV providers that could offer a better deal for you.

Tiscali offers an internet based digital TV service and provides the the UKs biggest TV on-demand service, meaning you can watch many TV programmes when you want, rather than when they are broadcast.  As it's an internet service, you can also get deals on your home phone and broadband, too.
